World Diabetes Day is celebrated each year on 14th November to spread awareness about the lifestyle disease. In 2020, the theme for the day is – The Nurse and Diabetes to emphasise the importance and crucial role that nurses play to support people living with diabetes.
While people may head directly to their General Physician or Diabetologist for their diabetes care, the role of nurses(who form half the healthcare workforce across the world) is under-rated. Infact, with the number of diabetics increasing by the day across the world, the role of nurses is only becoming more important to help manage the impact the condition can have on the people.
This year’s World Diabetes Day aims to create awareness among people that with the right training and expertise, nurses can make a huge difference in the management of diabetes.
