The Global Impact of the Coronavirus Pandemic
As we enter the third month of this new decade, global news has been predominantly dominated by the coronavirus epidemic, which has lately been termed as a pandemic. While international travel has been severely impacted, people’s behaviour in even their day-to-day lives has significantly changed. Countries like Australia, USA and many in Europe have reported empty stocks for toilet papers, tissue papers and other cleaning supplies. The global demand for soaps and sanitisers have skyrocketed and so have their prices. In Indian cities like Mumbai, most medical stores have no stock of sanitisers. Either they have the last remaining stocks of sanitisers that haven’t been sold for ages or are expecting stocks running into thousand pieces or more for the number of people demanding them. The cost of a bottle of 60ml of sanitiser has shot up more than double.
But, this is not all that the coronavirus has impacted. The global markets have come crashing down, the countries across the world are grappling with a major economic slowdown, the travel industry has almost come to a standstill with many countries closing their air and seaports to foreign travellers, and the price of commodities like food supplies have increased in places with detected coronavirus cases.
Thi novel coronavirus has created a global state of panic and fear as every country is actively trying to detect suspected cases and treat their positively detected cases. The governments of different states in India are doing their own bit to create as much awareness as possible about the Dos and Don’ts in this globally worrisome situation!
