Rising COVID-19 Numbers: Worrying?
While everything seemed hunky-dory in the months of January and February 2021, the covid-19 numbers since early March have been worrying. The covid-19 curve since the last week has caused a state of panic among the state and central governments with experts discussing the possible reasons for the same. With states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka recording nearly 1000-1500 new cases, Maharashtra saw over 25,000 cases, with Mumbai recording 2877 and Pune 2791 new cases. However, it is the city of Nagpur that has consistently been on the top with 2926 cases recorded.
Maharashtra’s high covid cases have been attributed to the complete opening up of the city, people flouting covid rules and a small segment of the experts blaming the mutant, highly infections strain that was found in the state a couple of weeks back. While the vaccination drive is increasing in numbers, more and more people are also crowding, avoiding masks and other basic covid-19 protocols put in place by the administration. With many western countries entering their third wave of the pandemic, are we heading to the mightier, scarier second wave?
