Obstetrician Appointed as New European Commission Chief

The European Commission just got their first female President in Ursula von der Leyen. Ursula, a physician with a strong medical background won the elections with a majority by being voted by heads of 28 EU states. Her view and vision for EU and the role the continent can play in the world were very clear from her election campaign days.

Many NGOs, patients, medical associations, health managers, and the European Public Health communities welcome the appointment of Ms Leyen as they see potential in her to bring about changes required in Europe’s public health sector. In order to achieve the goals she has set for her and her team, she is equipped with the confidence and assertiveness needed. One of seven siblings and herself a mother to seven kids, Ms Leyen has had quite a roller coaster of a ride in her life so far. Today she pledges to bring about more action on climate change, to invest in digital economy and promote gender equality and increase Europe’s role in global affairs.

Her views and opinions have won her the role and she is to take charge from December 1st. However, for fulfilling her promises and bringing to fruition her dreams for the continent and her people, she requires the funding, which is going to be a moment of truth for her and her team. So, it’s now time to get-set-work?
