COVID Vaccine Update India
The world is now excited and relieved with at least 5 players coming out with vaccines to tackle the notorious novel coronavirus that led to a global pandemic in 2020. With Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna’s mRNA vaccine out and approved in countries like the USA and UK, the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in phase 3 trials in different countries around the world, including India, the one pressing question that Indians are asking is – When do we get the vaccine?
As on 4th Dec 2020, India’s total covid cases tally stands at 95,71,559 and active cases at 4,16,082, the infection rate and the fatality rate in the country are very less compared to many Western counterparts. However, considering the large population, crammed cities and living conditions and a fragmented, dwindling healthcare system, getting a vaccine is absolutely essential for the world’s largest democracy.
Today, in an all-party virtual meet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that once scientists working on the vaccine give a nod, 1cr healthcare workers will be the first to be vaccinated against the virus. This will be followed by all frontline workers and senior citizens with co-morbidities.
Are we seeing the light at the end of the covid tunnel or is it just a mirage? Well, the next few weeks should reveal to us the reality!
